Investigation on the performance of polymer-modified stone matrix asphalt for bus rapid transport pavement

Abstract The application of the bus rapid transport (BRT) system has developed in many metropolitan cities owing to its cost-effective transportation which separates routes from private car route. However, channelized load caused by narrow space operation this road type leads very fast pavement deterioration, especially, potholes and rutting issues have been a major concern BRT pavement. Therefore, main goal research is develop polymer-modified stone matrix asphalt (PSMA) with aim enhancing permanent deformation resistance section. PSMA mix designs were different styrene-butadiene-styrene admixture contents gradation types. Afterward, laboratory tests conducted evaluate performance proposed mixture involving dynamic modulus test Hamburg wheel tracking test. Falling Weight Deflectometer was subsequently performed verify behavior best severely damaged stop location Seoul. findings suggest that gradations impose impact on specimens, especially at high temperatures or low-frequency zone associated congestion areas. In general, results confirmed potential use reinforce bearing capacity stations for sustainable infrastructure development.
